Can an Ultrasonic Cleaner Remove Rust?

Our Vevor ultrasonic parts cleaner worked so well cleaning car parts, we wanted to see if it could remove rust too.

Vevor Ultra Sonic Cleaner with Vinegar, CLR, and Krud Cutter

Digging around the house we found some Vinegar, CLR, and some Krud Kutter sitting in the garage which we’ve been wanting to test with some rusty bumper mounts and an alternator pulley from the BMW E30 project car.

The plan is to submerge each part into the Vevor Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner for 15 minutes with each solution to see which removes rust the best. We plan to partially submerge each part, so the heating feature was left off.

(Its recommended to always have the tank full when using the heating option and cleaning for longer periods of time)

After each 15 minute test, surprisingly Vinegar came in third with very little difference. Vinegar was only able to remove a larger chunk of rust.

CLR came in second and worked a bit better than the vinegar.

Krud Kutter came in first, but the part didn’t come out completely perfect. There was still a little bit of surface rust left on our rusty alternator pully.

So we decided to test all the parts with Krud Kutter diluted in water for two 30 minute blocks of time with all the parts fully submerged.

RUST REMOVAL FINAL RESULTS

After a total of 60 minutes the parts came out with almost all rust removed. Another added bonus of Krud Kutter is you can prime and paint your parts after the solution dries.

If you’re looking to save time by NOT hand scrubbing parts then we definitely recommend an Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner.

The Vevor Ultrasonic Parts Cleaner has some great features and is budget friendly. If you have lots of parts or items that are larger I’d suggest going with the 30L. 10L is fine for smaller parts. Vevor has tons of other tools you should check out like their air jack and powder coating system too.
