We live in the beautiful blue state sky of North Carolina.

Right around the northern border between North Carolina and Virginia you’ll find Virginia International Raceway or better know as VIR.

Originally starting as an SCCA road course, VIR has grown into hosting dozens of events throughout the year from endurance racing, SCCA, Drift, NASA, KART, Motorbikes, to off-roading and much more.

Then you have Hyperfest.

Hyperfest is once a year 3 day jam packed event hosted at VIR. The 3 days includes NASA road racing, Off-Road, Rally and Drifting spread across VIR’s different tracks and track configurations.

If you’re savvy enough, you can purchase tickets to drive your own ride. For spectators, there’s also ride alongs or you can watch from the comfort of your own seat or your camp tent.

Yes, you can even camp out through the 3 days and if you get your tickets quick enough you’ll have front row seats close enough to see all the action.

Where things get really interesting is inside the autocross/skidpad. The massive large square paved section allows anyone to get up close and personal to different events.

The drifting is pretty intense. You’ll need to make sure you have a pair of shades on, because tire shredding is mandatory.

At night, the “Crater” opens up which has a concrete barrier protection where a massive burnout contest takes place.

Here you’ll see more than tire shredding, you’ll get to see tire fire.

On top of all the motorsports going on you’ll find a massive car show that anyone can participate in, RC drifting, tons of vendor booths, and lots of food options.

VIR also has very clean restroom facilities and transport to the massive parking lots onsite. Hyperfest never gets boring. There’s always a massive schedule with multiple things happening on an hourly basis from morning til night.

You’ll also get to see some of your favorite motorsports athletes.

We got to meet Hert from Hoonigan and got hit with tire shred from Adam LZ, Collete Davis and Vaughn Gittin Jr.

If drifting isn’t your thang, then don’t worry. Off roading Bronco’s to Subaru Impreza’s rally racing are all part of the fun. There’s even a go kart racing section too. You can also walk around the padlocks and visit all the drivers.

Everyone is super friendly and are more than happy to show you their build or talk shop.

So is Hyperfest worth it?

I’d say so, but seeing is believing am I right?
