HOW TO BUILD A SIM RACING RIG USING A REAL CAR SEAT
We’ve started SIM drifting in Assetto Corsa and our chair sucks.
PARTS LIST
USING A REAL ADJUSTABLE SEAT
We decided to upcycle our super comfortable BMW seats from our 325CI Drift build for our SIM racing rig.
The best thing was we made our SIM RIG seat adjustable.
The first thing we need to build is a frame in which the 325CI BMW seat can mount to.
We picked up four 2x4 8ft pieces of lumber and made a very simple seat frame using wooden fasteners. The width of the 2x4 was made to the width of the seat frame mounts.
Then we drilled the set into the wooden fame with some spare lag bolts.
SEAT POWER
Next we needed a 12v source of power that has enough amperage to power the BMW seat motors.
We picked up a 12v 10amp power brick from amazon that came with a nice little wire block.
We then used some spare 14GA wire along with some terminals that we solder attached connectors along with heat shrink. These terminals then connected back to the BMW seat motor.
We then painted the 2x4 wooden frame black, mounted the seat back in place, and attached the power source. Powered it up and adjusted the seat to our exact height.
Now we have a very comfortable and fully adjustable leather BMW seat.
Drifting in Assetto Corsa works great!
The kids and friends can now adjust the seat to their height as we take turns sim drifting :) If you’re looking for something a bit more budget friendly, check out our list of $25-$200 Budget RC Drift cars.
